Over the past 20 years of higher education in Ukraine became affordable. This was announced by the president of the International Fund for Educational Policy Research Taras Finikov.
According to T. Finikov, the first two private schools have appeared in Ukraine at the end of 91 years. In 2005-06 there were more than 200 institutions.
The expert noted that in parallel with the number of schools has increased and the number of students. By the early 90’s in the Ukraine were less than 170-thousand students. In 2005-2006, there were more than 2.2 million.
Also T. Finikov focused on the fact that higher education is more affordable. If at the beginning of 90-s, only 15-17% of the students become university students, that at the moment – this is 70-75%. This is one of the highest rates in the world. In 2005-06 in private universities were about 400,000 students. In other words, almost one in five Ukrainian student graduates in the private colleges.
According to the expert, Ukraine is one of the five countries and dozens of the world with the greatest number of students.
“In Ukraine, there is a mental stereotype that parents need to educate their children without fail. I do not think this will change in the next ten years “, – concluded T. Finikov.
Background: In 1991, there were less than 160 high schools in Ukraine, of which only 12 had university status. It was also three Academy, 3 Conservatory and at least 140 different kinds of institutions.
Already in 1995, run 250 schools in 2008 – more than 350 high schools. And that does not include colleges that also provide training bachelors.
